My Views and Experiences
Music has the capacity for creative thought and action (Phillips, L, 2015), it helps students to develop self-discipline, confidence and teamwork. Through my experience with music, it is definitely one where you can experiment and explore new things. I have played many instruments throughout my life and I love how you can express yourself through music. I love listening to music when studying as it influences my mood and motivation levels. The song viva la vida by Coldplay was a song that I loved to play on my violin with the school orchestra, we used to play it everywhere on school parades and at competitions. I enjoy music so much and I encourage everyone to take on an instrument. I have attached the video. 'To “music” is to take part, in any capacity, in a musical performance, whether by performing, by listening, by rehearsing or practicing, by providing material for performance … or dancing' (Small, 1998, p. 9). It's a great resource to incorporate in the classroom. Having many experiences in music makes me more comfortable to teach it in the classroom Unfortunately I was away for both the tutorial and lecture, however I have thought of a few ways I can incorporate music into the classroom. I suggest that at a certain time of day students are allowed to listen to music while undertaking the class, as studies show that when people listen to music it increases their happiness and efficiency making them more likely to work harder. Another activity would be to incorporate cultures into music by listening to different cultures music, such as Aboriginal and Torres strait and Asian countries music. By doing this it will encourage students to learn more about that certain culture and maybe developing a likening towards certain cultures music. I would also suggest to create a box and place small instruments into it where students are able to explore and experiment, a great afternoon activity!
